What is Si Dian Jin (四点金)?

Si Dian Jin (四点金) is a traditional Chinese wedding custom in which the groom's family presents the bride with a set of four pieces of jewelry. "Si Dian Jin" literally means "four touches of gold" in Mandarin Chinese, and the four pieces typically include a necklace, a bracelet, a pair of earrings, and a ring.

The jewelry is usually made of gold and is chosen for its symbolic meaning. For example, the necklace may represent a long-lasting and happy marriage, while the bracelet symbolizes good luck and prosperity. The earrings are often chosen for their auspiciousness, such as designs that incorporate the Chinese character for happiness or a motif of two interlocking circles representing eternal love.

The Si Dian Jin tradition is a way for the groom's family to show their respect and acceptance of the bride, and for the bride to show her appreciation and gratitude. The jewelry is also meant to be a financial investment for the bride and her family, as gold is a valuable asset in Chinese culture.

In Singapore, Si Dian Jin is still being practiced, particularly among the Chinese community. Si Dian Jin is a traditional Chinese custom where the groom presents a set of four pieces of gold jewelry to the bride's family as a betrothal gift. This custom is seen as a symbol of the groom's sincerity and commitment to the bride and her family.

Si Dian Jin is usually given during the Guo Da Li (过大礼) ceremony, which is a traditional Chinese wedding custom where the groom's family presents various gifts to the bride's family. The bride's family will then return the gesture by presenting the couple with a dowry.

While modern weddings in Singapore may have incorporated Western-style elements, many Singaporeans still uphold their traditional customs and practices, including Si Dian Jin.
